my wife is involved with jws, and i want to find out what they believe, things they do or will not do, that i can present to her in the hope that it will convince her that the jw lifestyle is not for her.

It's true, the X-Files was mentioned from the platform several times in my congregation....however, a lot of B.S. was so i wouldnt look too seriosuly into it. Apparently a show about UFO's and demons being hunted down by a photogenic FBI team tinged the conscience of many a christian.- Preston

Blackswan: We have no children as of yet, and due to things I am learning now about JWs, I'm not sure that I want any until this is somehow resolved. As for the why...I wish I knew. I can't help but wonder if I am partially to blame, my wife has been a stay-at-home housewife since getting out of the military, and I know that she is bored during the day when I'm at work...I keep asking myself if we had gone out more would she have been less bored, less inclined to take up with friendly and persistant people who kept coming to the door to talk...I've also been pressuring her somewhat to get a job, as money is tight for us...but she has been out of the military for some time now, and has said several times she feels like nobody wants to hire her because she has been out of the work force so long. Maybe I pressured her too much...or maybe as I saw someone say elsewhere here, its easy to feel good when you join the JWs, because whenever something doesn't go right you can chalk it up to "persecution".
Talk to her. There could be any number of reasons why. Being in the military might have had something to do with it. The persecution thing is always a great hook. I've said this before to someone else, I don't know how it was received, but basically, get her involved with something, better yet, do it together. Like I said it could be so many different things. Communicate with her, pick her brain. Hey, being a stay at home housewife can get pretty dang boring.
In terms of $$$, is there a chance she could find something she's good at and start her own business? Seems to be a trend. I know someone who buys stuff at outlet malls and resells it on ebay and makes great $. There's no end to what you can do nowadays. Not only would that help money woes, but it would give her something to do. But again, talk to her first.

i'm somewhat currious why active witnesses appear to frequent the site, and if the information on this site causes any to "fade away" or "dis-associate"?.
personally if i have known 18 years ago what i know now i would have been a lot more active in trying to convince all i cared about to leave, instead of fading away [gone with a bang so to speak].
it's funny how when you are in it you can't see it for what it is.
Maybe theres a symbiotic relationship between dubs and apostates, like, well I dont know, stomachs and tape worms. Ahh, no thats a parasitic relationship.Maybe JWs can only define themseles in relation to apostates. If we didnt exist they wouldnt. Maybe were doing them a real big favour, embodying the boogey man, and giving them something to rail against.
I think you are right. Evil defines good and good defines evil. I think of it like this: Witnesses, as well as several other religious institutions, define their righteousness by using apostates and 'worldly' ones as their standard of unrighteousness. I think that the term 'embodying the boogey man' is a good one. I think what sets apostates apart from the rest of the evil in the world, is the whole idea among witnesses that when you become an apostate you have learned the 'truth' and chose to leave. Whereas in the world, they know nothing else. Now go back to evil defining what is good and good defining what is evil. Once you take notice of that gut feeling that something is wrong and you search into it, those definitions become so much more clear. db74 i stopped counting last year when i turned 30
